The Academy of Business Leadership (ABL) is a dynamic and innovative social entrepreneurial venture that is at the forefront of providing business and leadership education to underserved youth in Southern California. ABL strives to bridge the economic and educational divide experienced by minority and low-income students by teaching them the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and investment. In conjunction with its many corporate partners and collaboration with local universities, high schools, and entrepreneurs, ABL has enriched and impacted the lives of numerous high potential, low opportunity students throughout the region.
ABL has been featured in numerous magazines and publications, such as Forbes and Readers Digest, and has appeared on the Tyra Banks Show and in public broadcasting in both the Spanish language and mainstream news media. ABLís strategic partners include Merrill Lynch, The Capital Group Companies, Edison International, and First Pacific Advisors. Host universities and educational partners include the University of Southern California; California State University, Dominguez Hills; California State University, Fullerton; California State University, Los Angeles; and Santa Monica College.
Through integration in a college environment, hands-on exposure to business fundamentals, and interaction with the movers and shakers of corporate America, ABLís ultimate goal is twofold: (1) to improve studentsí chances of participating in the global economy and ensure their financial self-sufficiency and security and (2) to unleash the potential of its participants to aspire to become the future CEOís, entrepreneurs, and civic leaders of America and the world. Since 1992, ABL has reached over 45,000 students and has successfully graduated more than 2,000 underserved students from the Summer Business Institute (SBI). 99% of all ABL alumni graduate from high school, and an astounding 87% of these graduates go on to pursue higher education.
