Little Rock School District is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Itinerant Visually Impaired/Mobility Specialist Teacher

Location: Division of Special Programs

Qualifications:
1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
2. Current Arkansas certification in Vision Impaired. Dual certification as certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) by Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP).
3. Evidence of successful experience in working with students at risk.
4. Evidence of ability to work well with others.
5. Evidence of strong writing and organizational skills.
6. Evidence of ability to implement Individual Education Plans.
7. Evidence of a strong commitment to quality desegregated education.

Reports To: Reports directly to the Principal

Job Goal: To develop direct and indirect services for the District’s students who are visually impaired such as Braille and low vision.

Performance Responsibilities:
- Serves as a member of the educational management team.
- Provides functional vision assessments and learning media assessments.
- Travels, as necessary, to school sites to serve the visually impaired student population.
- Prepares materials required for each student in the appropriate media.
- Administers standardized testing as needed in appropriate media.
- Teaches orientation and mobility as necessary.
- Schedules and attends low vision examinations at doctors’ offices.
- Contact ophthalmologists and optometrists when necessary to obtain needed information.
- Provide large print, Braille and audio materials.
Instruct students in the use of assistive technology.
- Performs other duties as the principal/supervisor may, from time to time, assign.

Terms of Employment:
Teacher - Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days), plus benefit package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon education and experience. FLSA: EXEMPT

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
