The 2006-07 school year marks the 19th year of operation for Hoover City Schools. In 1988, we began our school system with one high school, one middle school, and five elementary schools. Our student population was below 5000. Today, we anticipate enrolling more than 12,000 students who will benefit from our facilities that now include: two high schools, three middle schools, an alternative school, and ten elementary schools. Hoover has become the 3rd largest city school system in Alabama. Our annual operating budget exceeds $123 million.
Hoover City Schools was recently declared a “Super System for Quality Schools” by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, (SACS). Expansion Management Magazine named Hoover City Schools as a GOLD MEDAL school district which places the district in the top 16% of all school districts nationally.
