Nenana City School District Info

Mission Statement
The mission of the Nenana City School District is to work in harmony with the community to ensure that students successfully complete the District education goals and objectives and become life-long learners who place value on their cultural heritage and make lasting contributions to their Community, State and Nation.

The staff and students of the Nenana City Public School have focused on the themes of character and respect over the last two years. By focusing on these two characteristics, it is our hope to enhance the overall climate and culture of our school. The focus for this school year will be COMMITMENT. Commitment is one of the outcomes of character and respect. Students show their commitment by being faithful, honest, and consistent with those individuals that they interact with on a daily basis.

By consistently showing commitment, the student body will communicate effectively with others using tact, respect, and intelligence. This will also be observed by having students that know how to conduct themselves appropriately so as not to embarrass themselves, their peers, or their school. This then filters into daily lives at home and in the community. The obvious goal is that the educational values will grow and allow students to receive the education to which they have a right.

The district also has a Student Living Center.

The district is located in the heart of Nenana, Alaska. The village of Nenana is located at the head of one of Alaska's most scenic valleys with Mt. McKinley visible on the horizon. Situated at the confluence of the Nenana and Tanana Rivers, it's about halfway between Fairbanks and Denali National Park. The name Nenana means "a good place to camp between the rivers."

With its close proximity to the Alaska Railroad and Tanana River (which flows into the Yukon River), Nenana has played an integral part in the development of interior Alaska.

Nenana is famous for its Ice Classic, a tradition since 1917. In late February, a black and white, 26-foot-tall, five-legged "tripod" is set in the ice of the Tanana River.
