Mt. Edgecumbe High School is the state-supported boarding high school in Sitka. Admission is available to Alaska residents, but most students are from rural Alaskan communities.
The school has an excellent academic reputation, and serves around 400 students in a residential setting.
Sitka is on the west coast of Baranof Island in Southeast Alaska. It is 95 air miles southwest of Juneau, and 185 miles northwest of Ketchikan. Seattle is only 860 miles to the south.
The community has an extensive infrastructure, and full facilities for transportation, health care and even post-secondary education. There are daily jet flights in and out of Sitka, and the Alaska Marine Highway ferries stop here.
Mt. Edgecumbe High School is a publicly funded organization
